おまけ

マッコウクジラは英語でSpermWhale、つまり精液鯨と書きます。これは髄液が白くて精液に似ているかららしいのですが、それにしてもそんなところに注目してそんな名前を付けないでもいいのに、という気になります。ちなみに日本名のマッコウは、よい香りのする木、抹香に由来しています。マッコウクジラの腸内結石がまるで抹香のような良い香りがしたかららしく、結石自体も龍涎香と呼ばれて珍重されていたそうです。日本名を英訳して英名にしたくなります。。
